Optica (formerly OSA), Advancing Optics and Photonics Worldwide, is the society dedicated to promoting the generation, application, archiving and dissemination of knowledge in the field.
Founded in 1916, it is the leading organization for scientists, engineers, business professionals, students and others interested in the science of light. Optica’s renowned publications, meetings, online resources and in-person activities fuel discoveries, shape real-life applications and accelerate scientific, technical and educational achievement.
Established in 2002, the Optica Foundation carries out charitable activities in support of the society’s student and early career communities. They cultivate the next generation of leaders and innovators as they navigate advanced degree programs and become active members of research, engineering and business worldwide. The foundation also works to secure the endowments for Optica’s awards and honors programs. The foundation is registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit.
Our Optica Chapter was founded in Milan in 2019, and it was the first chapter ever established at the Physics Department of Politecnico di Milano, and in the city of Milan.

The European Physical Society (EPS) is a not for profit association whose members include 42 National Physical Societies in Europe, individuals from all fields of physics, and European research institutions.
As a learned society, the EPS engages in activities that strengthen ties among the physicists in Europe. As a federation of National Physical Societies, the EPS studies issues of concern to all European countries relating to physics research, science policy and education.
The EPS Young Minds Programme is an initiative of the European Physical Society to interconnect young researchers in Europe and to promote science to the broad public. Boosting the creativity of young minds, setting up a bright, brave, creative, determined, passionate and focused initiative — this is the essence of the EPS Young Minds Programme.
Currently, more than 60 local sections distributed all over Europe are participating in the project. As this project of the European Physical Society is open to all enthusiastic young researchers in Europe and around the World, be sure to be part of the next generation of leaders in science!
Our EPS Young Minds section (Polimi Young Minds of Physics) was founded in Milan in 2019.

The Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE) is an international not-for-profit professional society for optics and photonics technology, founded in 1955.
SPIE organizes technical conferences, trade exhibitions, and continuing education programs for researchers and developers in the light-based fields of physics, including: optics, photonics, and imaging engineering.
The society publishes peer-reviewed scientific journals, conference proceedings, monographs, tutorial texts, field guides, and reference volumes in print and online. SPIE is especially well-known for Photonics West, one of the laser and photonics industry’s largest combined conferences and tradeshows which is held annually in San Francisco. SPIE also participates as partners in leading educational initiatives, and in 2020, for example, provided more than $5.8 million in support of optics education and outreach programs around the world.
Our SPIE Chapter was founded in Milan in 2021.
